PSYC 3430 Lecture 2: lecture 2- studying groups
Document Summary
Multi-level/interdisciplinary perspective: micro-level: qualities, attributes, behaviours of the individual members, meso-level: group level factors- size of group, cohesiveness, structure, norms, macro-level: large group qualities- perspectives of communities, societies. Reliability: the consistency of data when the measures are replicated and the intercorrelation among the items: internal consistency. The test items are compared to each other. Item-total correlations: the correlation of the item with the remainder of the items: test-retest reliability. Computing the correlation coe cient between scores of two administrations: inter-rater reliability. The reliability for the same scale to be scored by two di erent raters. Using the scoring rules, the raters should attain the same result. Validity: measuring a construct the way it is supposed/intended to be measured: predictive validity. The extend to which scores on the scale are predictive of some future outcome. Tests that are reliable are not necessarily valid, validity should increase if reliability increases.
