Independent Variable (manipulation)

Dependent Variable (measurement)

Extraneous Variable (like WEEDS) You want to limit these

variables, do not want it to affect the outcome of your

experiment

Confound – you do not know if it is the independent

variable your manipulating the experiment or the

confound variable

Ex. Placebo vs. Alcohol (measuring cortisol for relaxation)

Internal Validity

Lack of confounds (strongly designed study)

External Validity
