Effective Learning
Working Memory (short term memory) – this type of
memory is limited, it is information you are currently
aware of at the moment
Long-term memory (procedural memory) – factual
knowledge, procedures, experiences
Encoding – taking in information and coding it into a
format the brain can store and come back to later (i.e.
learning)
Retrieval -Process of bringing information back stored in
long term memory (i.e. remembering)
• Working Memory – if not kept active by rehearsal,
information is lost quickly from working memory
• Working memory can hold only so much
information (7+or- 2 can be held in working
memory)
