If you want to make a difference today, you have to challenge the views of the past. Ideologies are screens through which the social world is perceived. Dominant ideology: widely shared and has the greatest impact on social action: works to pre-frame the reality we interpret, acts to reproduce and legitimate the social structure of society and correct deviations. Counter ideologies: arise when the reality of social experience contradicts the dominant ideology. Ideological power is much more subtle than political/economic power. The dominant ideology has great power because it denies its own existence. Politics: political power divided up into pieces and assigned by king o the lords who serve him.
