Trade union (craft): excluded people of colour and women. Industrialized unions: people of colour and women organized their own unions. Primary value of form: solidarity: "take each others interests into account, "form of mutual aid" -self help of reciprocity, respect for human dignity. Union principle: stand together: individually workers arw helpless and all together they are powerful (p 22, black and silver) Three roles of unions (black and silver, pg 22: agents - work on behalf of members, collective bargaining/agreemwnts & stewards (volunteering, establish "industrial citizenship" -ratification, "giving members a political voice" (quarter, pg 22)
