On the one hand we have this idea of the law as impartial, neutral, just, while. 5 kinds of feminism make up legal feminism. Many kinds of feminism- some even disagree! Always think feminism/feminist with an s": liberal feminism, radical feminism, socialist feminism, poststructuralist feminism. Society based on social contract, state = arbiter primarily in the public sphere. Private sphere should be free from state. Individuals basically the same no innate difference between men and women. Bad (sexiest) law, result of biology assumptions. Socialization of women into feminine sex roles as caregivers and housekeepers. No revolutionary transformation, just tweaking of existing system. Patriarchy = system through which men maintain dominance over women. Violence = key to maintenance of patriarchy. State, law and patriarchy = male protection rackets. Protection rackets is a form of extortion and protection from danger from a superior person. Criticism of liberal and radical feminisms for being singularly focused on women (white, middle-class heterosexual).
