Document Summary
Connecting exploitation and oppression: unions and struggles against oppression. Primarily to form solidarity because work is a competition, employers benefit from employees competing, unions can ony have power if they form a trogetherness and equalize. These things that come out of legislation that challenge oppression help cause change. Unions have been under attack since the rise of neo-liberalism since the 1970"s, this decreases their role and power today. Unions were limited economically but had rich political potential. Unions and strikes are schools of war for the working class. Through these kind of experiences they could gain the skills and the confidence needed to pursue the revolutionary action. The very existence unions challenge one of the fundamentals of capitalist political economy, that is, competition between workers. Unions activity cannot itself facilitate the transformation of capitalist society. They may even hinder the possibilities of transformation.
