13 views3 pages

Document Summary

Goal-setting theory assumes that people are committed to their goals and determined not to abandon or lower them. Expect their efforts will pay off in attaining their goals. When accomplishing a goal is attractive to them. When they actively participate in goal setting. Goals on their own affect performance more when tsks are simple and independent. On interdependent tasks, group goals and task delegation are more preferred. On the other end, abandoning a goal following a failure occurs more for people who self-affirm their core values. This is possibly because they tend to internalize implications of failing stronger than other people might. Setting specific, difficult, and individual goals can have differing effects depending on the type of culture In collectivistic and high power-distance cultures, achievable moderate goals can be seen as being more motivating than harder ones. Assigned goals seem to create more commitment to goals in higher than in lower power- distance cultures.
