A forum for the exchange of comment and criticism. This means that mass communication agencies need to think of themselves as things that carry and facilitate public discussion. The press has varying degrees of units assumed to doing this and should recognize the responsibility that lies with being the press, both on a general and explicit level. It"s extremely important that a free society has ideas that are not diminished based on circumstances of where it starts. The press shouldn"t be expected to publish and disseminate every single idea or thought. However, larger units should have the duty of publishing ideas that are significant enough that don"t agree with their own ideas, to ensure objective reporting. The control over the many ways that they can reach the people in society should be considered when thinking about the consequences of not publishing ideas different from their own. If they don"t published differing ideas, the public won"t hear them.
