Humanity will either flourish, collapse, or fight off ignorance and oppression in the future. Our future might follow the worlds that science fiction authors imagine in their books, or we might save ourselves from some of these warnings and guides. While the genre of science fiction doesn"t just exist to project the future, it acts as a thing to help show ideas about how we live today and how we might live in the future. This is especially true as the way we communicate, travel, and experience the world around us changes. We continue to invent new technology that allows us to use our creativity without destroying the world in the process. Free speech and its future is shown in science fiction as being highly intertwined and connected with journalism. Journalists are shown in these stories as looking a lot like what the future of journalism might look like and how it looks like currently.
