Document Summary
Plants use solar energy and co2 to grow. Microbes eat plant material to gain energy. Continues to burn as heat is released. Burning wood releases co2 but co2 is consumed when a new tree grows to replace it. Photosynthesis: carbon dioxide, water, solar energy glucose and oxygen. General view of decomposition/burning ( photosynthesis in reverse ) Plant fuel and oxygen carbon dioxide, water, and solar energy. Other chemicals besides glucose burn, so this is a simplified description, but all fire releases energy that was previously stored in chemical bonds. Requires fuel (something to burn), oxygen, and a source of heat. Air is about 21% oxygen, so usually this requirement is met. When both fuel and a source of ignition are present, fire will form. It will continue to burn until all fuel has been consumed, or it is extinguished (by taking away oxygen or heat)
