PSYC1110 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Standard Deviation, Neuroglia, Statistical Significance
Document Summary
Environmental correlation to alcoholism is more strongly correlated with choice than environmental correlation to schizophrenia. Descriptive statistics: quantitative techniques that provide a mathematical picture of a collection of observations (mean, median, mode). The median is often the technique most used because there are no outliers while the mean includes outliers. Inferential statistics: testing hypotheses about data, what is the likelihood of the statistics, interpretation of data. If probability is less than 5% it is unlikely that experimental and treatment groups have the same average. Correlation: measure of association; the degree to which one variable predicts another; does not. It is composed of neurons and glial cells.
