Document Summary

Throughout evolution, they have the same general framework. Homeobox transcription factor form protein and controls expression of a gene the homeobox becomes the homeodomain. Domains in biology are places where things bind. The tf binds to the dna the product of the homeobox is the homeodomain which attaches to dna. Product is a tf which affects other genes. Mutation in hox: you would get a homeotic mutation. Wings come out of head or leg come out of something else, or four sets of legs. You don"t get new product, you get smaller or larger or moved product. One of the most important thing is creating direction ventral, dorsal, front, back, anterior, posterior. The way we do this is called morphgen gradients forms these axes. Bicoid is mrna which is deposited by the mother (would produce a protein) Distributes itself more strongly on one side and isn"t scattered on one side of the animal.
