PSYC 327 Lecture Notes - Lecture 21: Short-Term Memory, Echoic Memory, Sensory Memory
Document Summary
Enables us to recognize family, speak our language, find way home, locate food and water. Enables us to enjoy an experience and then mentally replay and enjoy it again. Memory: is learning that has persisted over time, information that has been stored and can be retrieved. Recall: measure of memory in which person must retrieve info learned earlier, as on a fill in the blank test. Recognition: a measure of memory in which the person need only identify items previously learned, as on a multiple choice test. Relearning: a measure of memory that assesses the amount of time saved when learning material again. Ex: old man who had a small stroke. Remembered past but couldn"t remember new memories, day of week, or had for lunch. Ex: with 280 slides for 10 seconds, people remembered 90%. 2800 for 3 seconds people spotted repeats with 82% accuracy.
