Chapter 2: planning and providing special education services. Evaluation and identification (asks parent"s permission once the parent / person who has educational rights to the child has been identified) If the child is dismissed the child cannot refute. Factors that contribute: incongruity between teachers and culturally and linguistically diverse students and families, which may lead to biased referrals, inaccurate assessment of culturally diverse students, ineffective curriculum and instructional practices for culturally diverse students. How to get rid of bias: multiple assessments, test in the student"s native language (their first language, adjustment period for students moving into the new school, possibly new state or even country. Parallel teaching two different teachers teaching the same subject material at the same time. Station teaching rotates groups to different stations for learning. Alternative teaching pulls a small group of students from the class and teaches the lesson in a different way.
