CAS BI 106 Lecture Notes - Lecture 21: Tunica Intima, Pulmonary Vein, Side Effect

20 views3 pages

Document Summary

A venue is a small vein with a small lumen but large relative wall. The veins and venules will have more blood cells than arteries because of the fast ow in the arteries. An arteriole is a small artery which has a small lumen. They have only the tunica intima made of simple squamous epithelium. They are the sight of oxygen and carbon dioxide, as well as waste exchange, between blood and tissue. (capillaries have 1 layer of endothelium in order to allow diffusion of nutrients and gasses). So for every one of our cells that need oxygen, they need to be near capillaries in order to get the needed gasses and nutrients. Sometimes the capillaries are so small that the red blood cells go in line (not one at the side of the other) and need to squish through. Capillaries form a bed between the veins and the arteries.
