CAS BI 106 Lecture Notes - Lecture 28: Distal Convoluted Tubule, Proximal Tubule, Efferent Arteriole

9 views14 pages

Document Summary

The glomerulus has a nest of capillaries, an afferent arteriole (which brings blood to the glomerulus, it is position on the top). At the bottom of the glomerulus is the beginning of the tubule system (where plasma is sent to re ne in order to become urine). Here we select what the body wants to keep and what it wants to give away. There are two twisty areas of the tubule coming off of the glomerulus. The closest is the proximal, the other is the distal. While the proximal tubule has an outsized job, the distal one has a secondary role. In fact, the majority of the transport (of nutrients) will be done in the rst portion. The other part, is more like re ning, last touchups. The purpose of the tubule is to reabsorb whatever the body wants to keep. Therefore there is an emphasis on surface area (a lot of movement, dissuasion).
