It kind of showcased what progressives were all about, improving the environment, in this case for the environment for the newly arriving immigrants. Although the there were several progressive reforms during that same era, there was not a coordinated effort to oversee the various progressive reforms. But, nonetheless, there were some commonalities that could be found in progressive reforms: progressives believed that government needed to be used in a positive was to improve the lives of people, especially people in need. Which was kind of a stretch from the past, because the u. s government back in the day was actually founded on a fear of government.
