PSY 100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Richard Dawkins, Chromosome
Document Summary
Today the theory of evolution is about as much open to doubt as the theory that the earth goes round the sun ~ richard dawkins. When organisms replicate we have offspring, and they get the traits we have. If they get the trait that helps us to survive they are more likely to get that trait. Organisms that survive are more likely to produce. Traits that aren"t good to help you survive get weeded out in order to confirm life. Chromosomes and genes- we all have 46, made out of dna. Genetic mutation- it is the engine that drives evolution. Often times genetic mutations leave the child with an easier life to survive and then that mutation will continue to spread. These traits become really valuable and key to life to be passed on. The feathers are used to attract the peahens, for sexual selection.
