COMM 1500 Lecture 10: Misconceptions about Communication

1085 views2 pages

Document Summary

People think that communication has the magical power to solve all of our problems. People may not understand something you are trying to say and may take it literally. People often assume that the more we communicate, the better. Usually people who communicate a great deal are seen as more friendly, social and more of the ability to be a leader than those who do not. But quantity is not the same as quality. Having more meaning in what you are saying is more important than just spitting out a bunch of useless words. Myth 3: meaning is in the words we use. If someone says they don"t feel well that could mean multiple different things. Some phrases are relative, meaning they may not signify the same meaning to you as they do to someone else. Myth 4: we have a natural ability to communicate. We are not all born with the physical and mental equipment need for communication.
