ACCT 002 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Qualitative Research, Participant Observation, Grounded Theory
Document Summary
Research methods are the different ways we collect the information. The sort of data affects the way you analyse the data. Research questions = what you want to answer by conducting research. Research methods = how you will go and collect data. Data analysis = taking what you have found and turning them into useful information. Observation concerns our direct experience of a phenomenon or event (hammond & wellington, p. 111) There are several ways you can structure observations: Duration recording = how long the children are there. Frequency recording = the number of times. Time sampling = first half hour of every day, week. Research that records anything and everything that relates to the question. There is no plan that says what needs to be observed. When the observer spends a long time with a group, getting to know them and gaining their trust. Be part of the community to help observations.
