1. Identify three main points of each reading
The reading covers information on how urban planners used the richness of soils to
plan their cities around. The reading includes the types of soils available and how
each type of soil is subject to different changes based on environmental impacts such
as erosion by water or wind. The reading also covers the different kinds of technosols
seen in urban environments.
2. Identify the methods the author used to reach their conclusion
The author references different surveys used throughout the reading.
3. What did you learn from the readings
I learned that multiple types of soil could impact the way a city is built. For example,
if made on fast eroding soils, a building is subject to sinking into the ground once the
land is washed away by water.
4. Identify the material you found challenging or had trouble understanding
The author mentions soil contamination, I knew it could contaminate the soils with
chemicals that could create problems for agriculture, but I did not realize that metals
could also infect the farming.
5. Ask a question
Have any studies shown a change in soil composition through the years based on
newly emerging technologies?
