Quick weight gain and growth in height is the growth spurt. Girls gain weight between ages 11-16, body growth complete by age 16. Boys weight decreases in arms and legs, grow more muscles, body growth complete by age 17. 5. Boys have an increase in red blood cells, ability to perform well in athletics at this time. Dramatic growth spurt in motor development and physical activity for boys and continues throughout the teen years.
