Chinggis or genghis khan completely transformed the mongolian empire into a dominant force. He was born in 1167 near the onion river in northern mongolia and died in 1227 fighting xi. His birth name was temujin, chinggis khan is a title (oceanic leader). The leader of the borjigin tribe became the ruler of all of mongolia. You cannot rule mongolian if you are not borjigin. At the age of 10, temujin"s father was poisoned so his mother raised him on her own. His mother taught him how to hunt, fish and ride horses. Chinggis khan relied on his generosity and charisma to move up the ranks and ultimately be named khan by the kuriltai (mongolian council of chieftains) in 1206. He married borte who was a member of the khongirad tribe in order to strengthen their alliance. Chinggis khan, which means oceanic or universal ruler because he conquered so much territory in his time as leader.
