Sayyid ajall was ordered to stay in china and monitor the yunnan empire (southern china) and to create a network with northern china. He also helped developed china"s agriculture and irrigation systems. Then, he brought in 17,000 new chinese merchants into yunnan. Ajall was responsible for the first chinese migration into yunnan and yunnan became one of china"s biggest trade centers. Many historians find it ironic that a foreign leader was the one who helped. Yunnan also became the center for the muslim population in china and it still is to this day. Ahmad was the financial advisor for kublai khan. Ahmad"s origin is unclear, but we know that he arrived in mongolia as a slave. The new empress recommends ahmad to kublai khan and they develop a connection. The mongol empire desperately needed to fix their economy as constant war was beginning to take its toll on the economy.
