Symptoms are present nearly every day, most of the day, for at least 2 weeks. Not due to normal bereavement (i. e. mourning a death) Sad mood or loss of interest or pleasure (anhedonia) Poor appetite and weight loss, or increased appetite and weight gain. We do(cid:374)"t k(cid:374)o(cid:449) ho(cid:449) lo(cid:374)g the depressi(cid:448)e episode (cid:449)ill last. For a(cid:374)y gi(cid:448)e(cid:374) person, no way to know when they will start to feel better. Average duration of each episode is 4-5 months. Sadness plus 3 other symptoms for 10 days. Significant impairments in functioning even though full diagnostic criteria are not met. Duration 2 weeks to several years for depression. Higher in states that do not receive as much sunlight. Their body now perceives the signal of receiving enough sunlight. Persistent depressive disorder may last 20 to 30 years. Early onset has poorer prognosis in persistent depressive disorder. The earlier you show these symptoms, the worse it is.
