Interaction of id, ego, and superego -> conflict -> anxiety. Indicated ego is in danger of losing control (it doesn"t have balance over the id and the superego: motivating. It is uncomfortable for us to sit in anxiety, so we are motivated to do something about it. Types of anxiety: objective: the ego trying to cope with a real, external threat. The tendency to blame events outside of one"s control for failure but to accept responsibility for success: displacement threatening or unacceptable impulse is channeled or redirected from original source. Anger you experience toward someone cannot be expressed in the way you desire so you take it out on someone else: a woman upset at her boss, can"t express that at her job. She goes home and get mad at her husband instead. Cool way of gathering real-time data: they had repressors and non-repressors and had to keep track of their emotional experiences for a month.
