Document Summary

Sag 105l4 lecture 22 animation methods. All animators have their own working methods. However, there are 2 principal approaches to consider. The first animation method is called pose-to-pose. It is often used by larger studios where the animators key out the sequence with a series of key poses with assigned key frames: these frames could be several frames apart. Once the first series of frames are keyed out, the animator will make a second pass: they will create the breakdown and in-between positions. This method allows the animator to hit certain poses at exactly the right point in the timeline. The second animation method is called straight ahead. This method is not as controlled as the first. It involves the animator animating the entire sequence from start to end, without using key poses. It can be a hit-or-miss method for animation: this is especially true if there is a specific cue to hit midshot.
