Document Summary

(cid:873)morality requires god(cid:874) is known as divine command theory. Things are good because god says their good. Things are bad because god says their bad. He has to have reasons for it. Can"t be that he just does it on a whim. If he has reasons, its those reasons that ground morality independently of god. Moral pluralism: people don"t agree about morality. If all i have to go on are my own faculties, the presence of moral disagreement should rationally lead to despair. If two people disagree, neither can privilege their own beliefs. What happens when you disagree with experts. Not as clear who the moral experts are. People with phd in ethics tend to be worst people. If all i have to go on are my own facultires, then the presence of moral failure should rationally lead to despair. Akrasia: weakness of will, do things that we think are morally wrong.
