State courts deal with the vast majority of offences and disputes arising in australia. Federal courts customarily deal with matters falling beyond the jurisdiction of state laws, including constitutional matters. State and territory level court system has three tiers compared to the two tiers. Hierarchical structure allows higher courts to correct believed errors of law. Lowest tier magistrate (justice of the peace) criminal and civil matters less than indictable offences in case management and program delivery for each offender. Primary function of the court is to work collaboratively with partner agencies.
