Document Summary

Prosocial-a lot of variable that cause people to help. Altruistic-a certain part of the population, due to personality(especially empathy), will help regardless of what is going on. Kin selection: more help if genetically related(especially children that are genetically linked) Reciprocity: we help when we can(at low cost) ,so we can get help when needed. Norm of reciprocity-if someone has helped you in the past you feel the need to reciprocate. Social responsibility-people will give help if they see that help is needed because we feel a responsibility to do so(reflects and altruistic attitude) In a study, students were asked to borrow their notes. In the experimental conditions, they said they were out sick with the flu or they slept in and didn"t go to class. If the person just didn"t go, rates of helping were much lower, following a norm of social justice. This comes with lower rates of helping in general.
