Document Summary

Chapter 6 mhc: the genetic organization and genes encoded in the mhc. All on same chromosome (class i and ii genes) in humans and mice. Class iii includes complement, tap; other proteins that function in immune system; don"t worry. Humans mhc molecules are called hla-a, b, or c 3 different versions of class i molecules, 6 copies of class i gene can make up to 6 different class i molecules. Class ii dq, dr, and dp; peptide presenters 2 polypeptide chains, each locus has gene encoding alpha and beta chain dq alpha can pair with dp beta don"t see dr + dq pairing together ever. Dm associates with class ii molecule to open up peptide binding pocket; displaces cip and loads. Diversity of mhc molecules (not quite like tcrs) Mouse class i is h-2, class ii molecules have 2 loci (ia, ie) while humans have 3 peptides.
