Development is multidirectional: patterns of change discontinuity, continuity, fast, slow, critical and sensitive periods (crucial periods of development) History and social class: cohort - people born within a few years of one another, historical - affected by values, events, technologies, cultures, ses - affected by education, occupation, neighborhood, income. Development is multicultural: culture - shared beliefs, norms, behaviors, expectations, social construction - shared perceptions, not on objective reality.
