All innervated by facial nerve = vii. Frontalis - covers parts of forehead of the skull. Originates at epicranial aponeurosis tough layer of dense fibrous tissue which covers the upper part of the cranium. Elevates corner of the mouth and draws it laterally. Covers the anterior surface of the neck, extending from the base of the neck to the periosteum of the mandible and the fascia at the corners of the mouth. Depresses and draws the corner of mouth laterally. Surface of mandibular body to skin at angle of mouth. Compresses bridge of nose; depresses tip; elevates corners of nostrils. Maxilla and cartilage of nose bridge of nose. Most powerful muscle in the muscles of mastication. Elevates the mandible; closes jaws; assists in protracting and retracting mandible and moving mandible side to side. Innervated by trigemnial nerve (v) mandibular branch. During chewing move food back across the teeth from the space inside the cheeks.
