Universe is made up of two kinds of things: matter and energy. Matter: stuff of the universe: solid, liquid, gases and their atomic particles. Has mass and volume; can easily see and feel. Cause something to move faster, change direction or break apart. Transfer of energy from one form to another causes changes to the condition of. Can be neither created or destroyed does only change from one form to another. Energy is commonly defined as the ability to do work. When force is involved in moving matter around, energy has been transferred from one form to another. (s. i unit of energy is joule (j)). Measure how much energy is being transferred per unit of time. (s. i unit of power is watt) equal to 1 joule per second. All substances are composed of extraordinarily tiny, constantly jiggling atoms, commonly bonded together into combinations of atoms called molecules.
