Americans have always engaged in discussions about who should go to school, why should we have schools, how should they be organized and paid for. When europeans first came to the americas, they saw indigenous people who have developed a highly successful social and political organization. These europeans wanted to make sure their religion and social way survived in the new world. New englanders insisted that parents teach their children to read so they could be able to read the bible. Massachusetts school law of 1647: law required that all communities pay for a school teachers and the attendance of boys and girls for preliminary literacy.
