How children"s cognitive processing changes as they age. Basic characteristics: made mental representations known as schemas. The process of using a previous schema to comprehend what they see now: accommodation: process of being able to create a new schema. The child will separate the difference between a ball and a helium balloon: organization: mental representations are organized and connected to like things in your brain. Dogs categorized in animals but not zoo animals. Has a stage theory that is discontinuous development. Sensorimotor stage: kids from birth to 2, make sense of the world around them through sensory and motor skills, touching stuff, circular reaction: baby leans on toy and it makes a noise. Child will try to make the noise again. Process of child trying to make the toy make a noise again. Playing with rattle and then hide it under the towel then they assume its gone forever. Stranger anxiety and op begins at 8 months of age.
