Lecture 5: biomolecule structure and function: ef cient protein production by reinitiating, the head and the tail of the mrna are found attached together by various proteins (refer prior note). This is important as the front might be very far from the back. When folded, the start and stop codons are placed close together. The ribosome initiates, translates, and comes to a stop codon. The small and large subunits separate and come back to the 5" cap and reinitiating occurs. Ef ciency increases as there is no long wait for the production and arrival of more small and large subunits. Ef ciency is also increased as it is very common for multiple ribosomes to be attached to it at a given time (polysome). Ef ciency is also increased by the sequences around the start codon.
