Average age of getting married is getting later in life. Couples tend to test the waters (live together) before getting married. Don"t have the time to raise kids. People are living longer having more generations living at the same time. Our parents are becoming caretakers to both us the children and their parents. Extended family and multigenerational living as well. Diversity and family form (e. g. , family size, cultural makeup of members) Diversity and cultural values (e. g. , parenting values, religious values, individualism/collectivism) Individualism-focus on the importance of the individual. Diversity and experiences (e. g. , immigrant experience, rural family life, poverty, family separations) What experiences has your family had to endure. Positive communication skills: (i. e. , empathy, reflective listening, supportive comments) enable families to share changing needs as they relate to cohesion and adaptability. Negative communication skills: (i. e. , criticism, verbal aggression, contradiction) impairs ability of family members to share needs, therefore restricting adaptability and cohesion. How emotionally connected families feel with one another.
