Gastrulation: occurs during the 3rd week of embryo. Purpose: process that established the 3 primary germ layers. Note the ectoderm the mesoderm and the embryonic endoderm. The mesoderm in the ventral midline is the notochordal plate. Ectoderm: think of it as outer skin. Give rise to all nervous tissue and epidermis (skin) Endoderm: think of it as inner skin. Give rise to epithelial lining to tracts. Gives rise to all muscles and cartilage, bone, and connective tissues like blood. Utilize 3 primary germ layers to bring about the tissues and the organs of the body. By reorganizing through process known as organogenesis (creation of organs) Organogenesis occurs from 3rd week to 8th week or embryo. The first process is called neurulation > occurs right after gastrulation. Occurs end of 4th week > 28 days. Neurulation: differentiation of ectoderm which first produces neural plate and in the end neural tube.
