Incentives: positive or negative environmental stimulus that motivates behavior. Biological signals for hunger and satiety satisfaction. Drive creates motivation and creates more of an equilibrium. Hypothalamus: activity in the ventromedial nucleus signals that there is no need to eat. Activity in the lateral hypothalamus ignores nonbiological things. Appetite: motivation to seek motivation in food. Lower- level needs must be satisfied first. People can satisfy several levels at once. People don"t always satisfy need on this order: physcological, ex. Nurturance, money: belongingness and love, ex. acceptance, esteem, ex. Respect: self- actualizations, ex. max of one"s potential. Self control: capacity to postpone immediate gratification for the sake of future interests. Exerting control can make it more difficult to exert future control. Lower - than- expected ( increase effort) How we interpret our completed actions matter.
