Action: elevates the back of the tongue, retracts tongue: hyoglossus. Parotid glands: in front of the ear, it ducts open into the oral cavity. Submandibular gland: is mostly tucked under the mandible, but some of it may be palpable, has a duct and a single opening at the front of the folds, the sublingual papillae.
