Health includes : weight, level of stress, physical activity, alcohol use, genetics, tobacco use, ses. Nutrition is important because it helps prevent chronic diseases. Nutrients are compounds found in foods that sustain your body processes. 6 classes of nutrients are all essential in diet to maintain bodily function: macronutrients- energy yielding nutrients needed in higher amounts. Carbohydrates, lipids (fats), and proteins: micronutrients- needed in smaller amounts. Vitamins and minerals: water- copious amounts needed daily for hydration. Kilocalories (calories)- from the macronutrients are used as energy during process of metabolism: carbohydrates provide 4 calories per gram, fats provide 9 calories per gram, protein provides 4 calories per gram. Carbohydrates, fats, and proteins provide energy: carbohydrates supply glucose the major fuel source for the body, fats are also a fuel source.
