Dry snuff (intranasal) was the most popular form of tobacco. Chewing tobacco was the most popular form of the tobacco. Nicotine is isolated and identified: scientists concluded that it is a dangerous poison. Cigarettes became the most popular form of tobacco. Cigarette sales skyrocketed after wwii: unfiltered lucky strikes given to soldiers. Surgeon general releases report declaring smoking a health hazard. Rates of smoking in women began to rise (be skinnier) Marketing to kids were banned in most states. Rarely allowed in films with less than an r rating. Smoking in enclosed workplaces was completely banned. Contributes to 85% of all lung cancers. A factor in 30% of all cancers. Related to 30% of all heart disease. Nicotine is the main psychoactive ingredient in tobacco. Inhalation: reaches brain in about 7 seconds. Humans and animals can titrate (choose) the amount of nicotine they self-administer. If subjects are preloaded with nicotine, then smoking is reduced.
