PHIL 110 Lecture 2: Week 2 Summary
Document Summary
In this week"s reading assignment, writing with ethics was addressed. Rules 1 to 6 were mentioned, starting off with rule 1, which delved into the identification of premises and conclusions. It is important to notice those indicator words, such as: because, since, given that, and for; as well as looking for conclusion indicators, such as: therefore, thus, hence, and so. The conclusion is the statement that sets the tone and argument for the rest of the writing, in where the reasons are giving, stating the position. Rule 2 discussed developing ideas in a natural order, where it is necessary to make sure the premises add up to the conclusion. Visual arguments can help with setting up the ideas, these include online videos, billboards, and artwork. Rule 3 introduced starting from reliable premises, where having well-known examples or reliable sources available to use help ease into the argument being stated.
