Document Summary

Discovery science: natural structures and processes as accurately as possible through careful observation and analysis of data. Inductive reasoning- derive generalizations based on a large number of speci c observations. Deductive reasoning- the logic ows from general to speci c. Hypothesis must be testable and falsi able, verify and repeat. The data derived from controls do not eliminate variables, but they cancel their effect. Does not set out to prove theories or hypotheses. Taxonomy- branch of biology that names and classi es species. New methods, mostly dna sequences, have led to a reassessment of taxonomy. Organisms exist as open systems that exchange energy and materials with their surrounding many biological processes are self regulating in which an output or product of process regulates that process.
