Document Summary

Staphylococcus some harmless/ some cause disease: aureus. Staph is found on skin, nose, ect. and can be passed from person to person. Mrsa methicillin resistant s aureus resistance to antibiotic drugs. Broken down by cdc into urgent, serious, and concerning threats. Antibiotics chemicals that either kill bacteria or slow their growth by interfering with function of cell structures. Beta lactam interfere w bacterial cell wall formation. Non beta lactam inhibit peptidoglycan synthesis by binding to precursors, interfere with dna rep, interfere with protein synthesis, ect . Antibiotic resistance bacteria emerge that survive antibiotics by acquiring genetic variation. Bacteria divide by binary fission, result in 2 daughter cells. (asexual) Gene transfer bacteria swap pieces of dna with other bacteria. Population a group of organism of the same species living in the same geographic area. Frequencies of alleles vary over time based on environment. Evolution is based on allele frequency changes in populations not individuals.
