Abortion = termination of pregnancy prior to 20 weeks = induced or spontaneous varies with maternal age. Over half of 1st trimester are r/t > chromosomal abnormalities. Threatened = unexplained bleeding, cramping, backache, or cervix closed. Imminent = increased bleeding and cramping, cervix dilates, and water may break. Incomplete = parts are retained, often the placenta. Habitual/recurrent = occurs consecutively in 3 or more pregnancies. Ectopic pregnancy: implantation of fertilized ovum in site other than endometrial lining of uterus. 95% of ectopic pregnancies occur in fallopian tubes. Assessment prior to tube rupture abdominal pain or pelvic pain bleeding vital signs stable. Medication > methotrexate = folic acid antagonist and chemotherapy agent. Gi side effects (n/v > should avoid alcohol and nsaids, abdominal pain for several days after taking. Support for pregnancy loss and response r/t fear, guilt education, and pregnancy loss and support groups.
