BIOL 221L Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Cervical Plexus, Schwann Cell, Sacral Plexus
Document Summary
Laboratory lecture anatomy of the cranial nerves, spinal column and spinal nerves spring 2015. Motor: regulation of pulmonary, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal function. Pneumonics for cranial nerves: oh once one takes the anatomy final, very good vacations are had. Penumonic for cranial nerve function (s= sensory, m=motor, b=both: some say marry money but my brother says big brains matter more. Organization of the gray matter in the spinal column (old figure) Anterior (ventral) gray horns contains cell bodies of somatic motor nuclei. Nuclei cell bodies of neurons organized into functional groups. Posterior (dorsal) gray horns cell bodies of somatic and visceral sensory nuclei. Lateral gray horns located only in the thoracic and lumbar segments. Organization of the white matter in the spinal column: white matter is subdivided into columns. Each column contains bundles of axons called tracts. Ascending tracts (sensory) carry sensory information to the brain. Descending tracts (motor) carry motor signals to spinal column.
