Taking a bite out of crime: tooth mark impressions. Last time we took a look at impressioned evidence: forgeries and handwriting. Two basic approaches to qd - handwriting or the qd itself. Today we are going to look at a very different form of impression evidence: bite marks. How to collect and examine bite marks. This can identify between identical twins where dna can"t. This is how it differs from dentistry. Odontology: when we"re not using this knowledge for therapeutic work. Genetics and environment are combined to give us unique sets of teeth and jaw structure. Can distinguish between animal and human bite marks. Tooth- the head (covered in hard enamel), dentine tissue (squishy hard. We can use a hardness scale and these structures because teeth are layer that creates the housing for the root) likes rocks. Genetics can play a role on the hardness scale (siblings are similar, but others are different)
